Job Description: Responsible for leading the daily safety activities for the Private Fleet network, while supporting and coordinating the safety and environmental responsibilities of the local Distribution Center (DC). The position will report directly to the Logistics Safety and Compliance Manager. The primary function will be to support the Fleet network leadership and local DC management to ensure all operations are within federal and state regulatory guidelines, compliant with all company policies and consistent with the synergized logistics approach.
The safety responsibility matrix will be of a national exposure and consist of the following components: Five terminal locations in Streetsboro, Oh. Allentown, Pa., Dekalb, Ill. Mira Loma, Ca. and McDonough, Ga. with approximately 130 company drivers, 16 mechanics and 40 owner/operators and one Distribution Center located in DeKalb, IL which has approximately 150 employees.
This individual will be responsible for leading and facilitating the development of a comprehensive, leading edge safety training program while identifying synergistic and collaborative opportunities within the Fleet and DC groups. The program will drive optimal results in the areas of: OSHA, EPA, DOT Reportable/Roadside Inspections and Crash Frequency. In addition, the individual will assist in driving & implementing a safety culture that is focused, empowering and participatory in nature, while committed to innovation, results and ongoing safety excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Monitor, assist and support Fleet Network and local DC Leadership team to achieve compliance with all DOT, OSHA, EPA, state and local regulations, as well as, applicable Nestlé company policies.
2. Assist in development of and execution of objectives and strategic action plans for the purpose of meeting business targets.
3. Support, facilitate and implement network training modules within the (VRM) - Virtual Risk Manager process for both Fleet and Distribution operations to identify and minimize risk and exposure.
4. Support initiatives to provide optimal results related to Crash Frequency and US DOT reportable ratings (SafeStats) of vehicles and drivers.
5. Facilitation of data collection and reporting Key Performance Indicator's related to Safety and Environmental Performance.
6. Coordinate and participate in internal safety assessments and take part in audits conducted by outside groups (e.g., Corporate EHS, insurance carrier, government agencies, etc).
7. Co-lead accident discussions with Fleet Network and DC Leadership teams to determine preventability, accountability, root causes and remedial measures.
8. Participate in the HOS-training and compliance programs.
Minimum Education Level and/or Other Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
Minimum Training and/or Experience Required:
- 3- 5 years safety experience, preferably in a transportation and/or warehouse environment
- DOT and HOS regulatory knowledge preferred
- OSHA and Environmental Regulatory Knowledge, a plus

General Responsibilities in Process Safety Management:
- Lead all aspects of Process Safety Management.
